Andrea Calabresi
At the heart of CorsiFotoAnalogica are the courses held for over 30 years by artist, educator, and fine-art printer Andrea Calabresi. With more than four decades of darkroom experience and a distinguished career as a professional artist, Andrea Calabresi is renowned for his expertise and accessibility. He provides not only high-level technical training but also a unique cultural and visual approach to photography—one that opens new horizons through a deep understanding of photographic tools, techniques, and the historical evolution of photography as an art form.
Andrea Calabresi began teaching private courses in 1996. Over the years, these have been joined by prestigious institutional roles, including Scuola Romana di Fotografia, Toscana Photographic Workshops (TPW), Syracuse University (New York), Art Department where he has been a visiting instructor from 2004 to 2021, ISFCI (Rome) where he conducted workshops and collaborations.
Initially a precocious self-taught photographer, he later refined his craft under the mentorship of Jim Megargee, one of America’s most influential printers, and the renowned artist Arno Rafael Minkkinen.
A professional photographer since 1989, Calabresi is, above all, a true darkroom enthusiast and expert. From 1996 to 2001, he ran a black-and-white fine-art printing laboratory in Rome, working for leading professionals and producing prints for numerous major exhibitions and publications. During this time, he developed the "Perceptive Method", a pedagogical and technical approach to printing based on the study of the relationship between initial emotional reactions and the prolonged observation of images.
As an artist, he is represented in Italy by the MAC – Maja Arte Contemporanea gallery in Rome, and was previously represented in the U.S.A. by the MV Gallery of Photography in New York City.
